Sleep Dentistry and General Anesthesia

For some children with extensive dental needs, the safest way to complete treatment is under geneal anesthesia. We perform these procedures approximately two days each week our practice.
The benefits of sleep dentistry include:

  1. All treatment can be accomplished in one appointment

  2. It is easier to provide a higher quality of dental care because the child is not moving around

  3. It is a great, atraumatic experience for your child. Your child will not be aware of the work being completed and, therefore, will not form a negative association with dentistry.

  4. The child does not experience any pain or discomfort during the procedure.

Your child’s safety is our top priority. When provided by trained and qualified medical personnel, sedation dentistry is a safe and effective method for delivering high quality care in a comfortable setting. We take safety extremely seriously.

This sedation is administered by qualified and certified physicians with the assistance of registered nurses. All of our physicians, nurses, and dentists maintain pediatric advanced life support certifications.

Children are sedated by breathing through a mask that covers the nose and mouth. While some children resist this initial part, after a few breaths, your child will be aslseep and comfortable. Your child is monitoring throughout the procedure by an anesthesiologist. Children are usually awake within 5-10 minutes following the dental procedure. The entire process usually takes 1-1.5 hours.
